Assignment #2 "Digital Coloring in Primary and Secondary Colors" for Digital Art 1 and 2 Students8/26/2019
The links below connect to different line drawings. Examine each of them. If clicking on the link does not take you directly to the image, copy and paste it into the address bar in your browser. After having looked at each of them, select one and save it. You will need the original, unedited, black-line drawing to submit to me later. Open the saved image in either Pixlr, Sumo or Photoshop. I do recommend Pixlr over Sumopaint because it has fewer glitches and is a lot less likely to crash. COLOR THE IMAGE COMPLETELY USING ONLY RED, YELLOW, BLUE, PURPLE, GREEN AND ORANGE. You can use lots of different variations of those six colors. For instance, there are hundreds of different kinds of blue. Use as many as you want. ALL OF THE SHAPES (SPACES BETWEEN THE OUTLINES THAT ARE AT LEAST LARGE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO BE SELECTED WITH THE MAGIC WAND TOOL) SHOULD BE COLORED INDIVIDUALLY. And then here's the BIG part, any space colored yellow CANNOT touch another yellow space OR a space colored purple... any space colored red CANNOT touch another red space OR a space colored green... and any space colored orange CANNOT touch another orange space OR a space colored blue. When you're done, save your work in several different file formats. I recommend .png, .jpg, AND .pdf versions. Once you've saved them, try opening them again to make sure the file saved properly. When you submit this assignment for grading on your flash drive, you will have to save both the original unedited black-line image AND your colored version. This assignment will not be graded if you do not do so. ASSIGNMENT Create an illustration (picture/image) that completes the following statement: Today NASA looked further into deep space than ever before. The first photographs taken by the new J. Landon telescope, the only telescope ever to be located on earth's moon, were viewed and analyzed by NASA scientists. The team of deep space astronomers were SHOCKED to find photographic evidence of... Be funny with this one. Choose a background photo. Then cut/copy and paste at least four other objects or pieces of objects from other photos to create your image. Students should complete this assignment with the same care as all previous assignments, with emphasis on high-quality photo editing and compositing. The images created should look as realistic and believable as possible while being highly imaginative and creative. Begin or continue work on Assignment #1 "Strange Birds..." The assignment description is in the post below this one.
As you work on this, remember what we practiced last week with selecting, copying/cutting and pasting. If you need help with these things, either check our YouTube channel at JLCP Art for tutorials or search online for answers to questions like "How do I copy and paste in Pixlr?" There's a ton of helpful info out there. If you want to check out the YouTube tutorials and don't have earphones to listen, click the "CC" button for subtitles. Do good work. I will see you tomorrow. OK, so before you get into this assignment, let me advise you that at the very bottom of this post is a link to a tutorial I put up on our YouTube channel that will be EXTREMELY HELPFUL to you as you complete this assignment. PLEASE, take the time to watch it.
Using your VERY BEST Photo Compositing skills, create an image of an imaginary animal doing something that is a uniquely HUMAN activity (something only people, among all other animals, do) in an unusual place. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Your imaginary animal will be created from images of bits and pieces of four (4) other animals. 2. Your animal will be placed into a background image that is separate from any of the other images you use. 3. Any other objects you put into your own composition (project) must come from images that are separate from any other images you use. 4. DO NOT use .png files or any other type of image that has a transparent or flat, single-colored background. SAVE ALL OF THE IMAGES YOU USE AS FILES THAT ARE SEPARATE FROM YOUR PROJECT. You will have to turn in your project AS WELL AS all of the original images. The image above is my finished project (teacher example). The image below is one in which I combined all of my "source photos'. Other Stuff: - Use images that have a pixel value higher than 1000 for the larger size. For example, let's say you find a photo in Google that you want to use. Underneath the photo will be numbers that represent the the number of pixels that the image is made of. If that photo has a pixel count of 232 x 312 (for instance), then it is a pretty low quality image. Don't use it. Choose another image with it's larger number being over 1000... let's say 800 x 1340. The background image should have a larger number above 1800 pixels. - For helpful hints and tips on photo compositing and digital painting (which you will have to do for this project), go to the YouTube channel. In YouTube, search "JLCP Art". Check the tutorials. They will be very helpful. The tutorial on Digital Painting (which is something you're going to need to do for this project) can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC9oS_gh0SY If the link doesn't take you directly to the video, copy and paste the address in the address bar of your browser. Continue your Pencil 2d animation project. As a reminder, the requirements form this first project are:
1. The animation is 200 frames in length. 2. The frame rate is 25 frames per second. 3. The object you are animating must change in appearance (so that you are not just moving the same object around the screen for 200 frames. Your object can change in size, color or shape. Ideally, it will change in all three qualities. The finished animations are due by the end of class Wednesday, August 21. No exceptions. We will watch them in class on Thursday, August 22. |
