Attention Students and Parents,
All student work that was submitted before or on Friday, December 6th has been graded and posted to Focus. GRADES OF "0" THAT HAVE RECENTLY BEEN ADDED TO FOCUS CAN BE THOUGHT OF AS "PLACEHOLDERS" FOR PROJECT GRADES FOR YET-TO-BE-GRADED WORK SUBMITTED LATE. HOWEVER, PLEASE NOTE THAT GRADES, AS THEY STAND NOW, ARE AN ACCURATE PREVIEW OF WHAT NINE WEEKS FINAL GRADES WILL BE IN THE EVENT THAT STUDENTS DO NOT TURN IN FOR GRADING THE WORK IN QUESTION. I am currently in the process of grading work that was submitted late for grading, that is to say on or after Monday, December 9th. Grades for that work will be posted to Focus on or before Saturday, December 21. PARENTS, PLEASE NOTE, PROJECT GRADES ARE WORTH SIGNIFICANTLY MORE CREDIT THAN INDIVIDUAL DAILY STUDIO WORK GRADES. ONE OR MORE MISSING PROJECT GRADES WILL GREATLY AFFECT A STUDENT'S FINAL GRADE FOR THE NINE WEEK GRADING PERIOD. CONVERSELY, REPLACING "0's" WITH SUCCESSFULLY-SUBMITTED PROJECT GRADES WILL HAVE A DRAMATICALLY POSITIVE AFFECT TO THE NINE WEEKS' GRADE. ANY ASSIGNMENTS SUBMITTED FOR GRADING ON OR BEFORE THURSDAY, DECEMBER 20th will be accepted up until 6pm on Thursday, December 26th and are to be submitted via email to [email protected]. REGARDING GRADES OF "0" for DAILY STUDIO WORK GRADES for UNEXCUSED ABSENCES: A student with an Unexcused Absence will receive a grade of "0" for his or her DAILY STUDIO WORK GRADE (participation grade) for the date in question. Students are required to obtain a Readmit slip from the front office by bringing in a note of explanation from a parent, having it signed by all of his or her teachers and returning it to the front office to have absences designated as "EXCUSED" within official DCPS records. ASSIGNMENT
IN INKSCAPE... 1. Choose a single word, any word. 2. Create an image in Inkscape in which you repeat that word 200 times, each one using a different COMBINATION of colors and filter effects. 3. Make each word any size you want so you can fit them on the page. Turn them in any direction. You will use TEXT AND FONT under the TEXT DROP DOWN MENU to change fonts and styles and FILL AND STROKE under the OBJECT DROP DOWN MENU to change color and outline. 4. Use the FILTERS DROP DOWN MENU to choose from the selection of filters. 5. MAKE SURE TO SAVE YOUR WORK AS .svg FILES. YOUR PROJECT WILL BE GRADED BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF VARIETY YOU CREATE IN YOUR PROJECT. THINK OF THE THINGS YOU CAN CHANGE: 1. FONT 2. FONT STYLE 3. COLOR 4. SIZE 5. PLACEMENT 6. FILTER MIX IT UP. CREATE AS MANY DIFFERENT COMBINATIONS OF THESE THINGS AS YOU CAN. So get busy... and have a great fontin' day! Design a Magazine
1. Think of an idea for a magazine. It can be funny, silly, serious... whatever. But make it specific. So not "Sports Magazine" or even "Basketball Magazine" but maybe something like "Neighborhood Court Magazine". 2. Create three pages of the magazine to show what it will look like. I STRONGLY recommend that you go out and look at images of professionally published magazines. Especially magazines that are about something similar to yours. Make the following pages: - Cover (including the logo for the name, the "masthead") - Table of Contents - Content Page (an example of what's in the magazine) 3. Make it look as professional as possible. Do your photo editing in Pixlr and all of your text in Inkscape. Make you pages 1800 pixels x 2400 pixels. BIG IDEA An issue of a magazine should should have a "style", a "look" to it. All the pages should look like they belong together with regard to the fonts, colors and even the images that are used. In terms of the Principles of Art, this is about "Harmony". POLITICAL SATIRE IMAGE
FAKE NEWS Using three or more images found online, create a national or international news event that never actually happened. The goal is to put together an image that looks as if it came right off the TV news. IT NEEDS TO BE CONVINCING, TO LOOK REAL. BUT THE IDEA IS TO CREATE THIS IMAGE TO LOOK SUPER-REAL WHILE AT THE SAME TIME BEING ABOUT A (RIDICULOUS/ABSURD/HILARIOUS) FICTITIOUS NEWS EVENT. Your composition should be put together in Pixlr and Inkscape... Pixlr for the photo editing, Inkscape for all of the text. DO NOT USE ANY ONLINE TEMPLATES. GRADING CRITERIA ARE: 1. CREATIVITY OF THE FAKE NEWS EVENT 2. QUALITY OF THE PHOTO EDITING... (IT NEEDS TO LOOK CONVINCINGLY REAL) 3. QUALITY OF THE TEXT LAYOUT |
